With teams spread across Sydney, Melbourne, London and Manila, staying connected isn’t just a priority at Vacaay, it’s essential to how we operate.
As a fast-growing company expanding globally, we’ve made deliberate choices to ensure our culture travels just as far as our product. That means building strong communication habits, fostering genuine cross-office relationships, and connecting in ways that go beyond the daily stand-up.
So how do we stay connected? It starts with structure—regular team meetings, weekly team check-ins, and shared OKRs keep everyone aligned. But it’s the human layer that really holds it all together: personal video updates that go beyond status reports, spontaneous Slack banter that keeps the vibe alive, and cross-functional project teams that bring people from different offices together to tackle big challenges collaboratively and in real time.
A big part of our team culture revolves around sport, health, and fitness, and that shared passion has inspired some great team-wide traditions. From fantasy football leagues (NFL, EPL, and more) to group fitness challenges like 100 push-ups a day for 30 days, we’re always finding ways to stay active and engaged. We’ve even run intermittent fasting competitions to see who can clock the longest (safe and healthy) fast. It’s all light-hearted, a little competitive, and a surprisingly effective way to stay connected across time zones.
And when we do get the chance to meet in person? It’s always something special. Sometimes it’s a strategy session in Sydney, but more often than not, it’s built around experiences we genuinely enjoy together. Think EPL games in London, Friday night footy at the MCG, long lunches at incredible restaurants, or group dinners that turn into big nights out. They’re where the best conversations happen, and where some of our greatest ideas have started.
Building a great product is one thing. Building a great team, across four countries, is something we’re just as proud of.
